More Thoughts on Orphan Works [May. 31st, 2008|05:16 pm] So, since my last blog post on the Shawn Bentley Orphan Works Act, I’ve  given alot of thought to the other side of the issue.  Many smart, passionate people (see: Radio Free Meredith, Public Knowledge, EFF, and BoingBoing) advocate the Orphan Works act.  While I believe their intentions are good, none are professional artists, and all seem to share a condescension towards working artists and a naiveté about how the law will actually be used to screw these artists over.  The full Orphan Works bill (PDF) is at www.publicknowledge.org/pdf/110-s-ow-20080424.pdf The stuff against it (which I obviously support) is at http://capwiz.com/illustratorspartnership/home/ ( Here are some common things I’ve heard on pro-Orphan Works sites, as well as my thoughts on them.  )  sc Link 19 comments|Leave a comment
